Orderlies Jobs

Individuals with orderly jobs operate under the supervision of a nurse or other medical staff members and are in are in direct contact with the patients of a health care institution. Individuals with an orderly job must be physically capable to handle the typical workload which consists of non medical tasks like preparing the patient for surgery or examination, transporting patients, and assisting with food delivery.

A high school education is the minimum educational requirement for an orderly job. Prior experience in the field would be beneficial but may not be required by the employer as training will be given formally or while on the job through a more experienced orderly.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a 19 percent employment increase expected over the course of the 2008 to 2018 decade. This rate of employment will be faster than the national average for all occupations with the demand due to several influences. The increasing population of elderly and the broadening role of health care services will add to the demand for qualified workers creating favorable job opportunities.
