Phlebotomy is a medical profession that collects blood from patients in order to perform a variety of tests or for donating blood. Phlebotomists are not required to be licensed except in California and Kentucky. In order to become a phlebotomist one must have a high school diploma or GED. Aspiring phlebotomists generally spend about four months in a trade school where they learn the proper techniques for taking and handling blood.
The health care industry is currently experiencing an increase of jobs through the year 2016 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS.) This makes phlebotomy jobs some of the most valuable jobs for jobseekers.
