Physician assistants, under the direct supervision of a physician, perform many of the same tasks as a doctor. Most states even allow physician assistants to prescribe medicine to patients. In many areas where a physician is not present full time, physician assistants often work in place of the doctor. Most full-time physician assistant training programs last for two years. This is done after completion of at least 2 years of college.
With projected employment growth at 27 percent, the demand for physician assistants is expected to grow much faster than average according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS.) In addition, job opportunities are projected to be good through the year 2016 according to the BLS. Check out our physician assistant jobs at HealthCareerWeb.com.
