Ostomy Nursing Jobs

Ostomy Nursing jobs are specialized careers that are responsible for providing treatment to patients with ostomies, slow healing wounds, and surgical openings that allow an alternative way for waste to exit the body. An individual with a ostomy nurse job will update patient records, collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, and explain medical procedures to the family and patient.

Prospective ostomy nurse job seekers should first earn a bachelor's degree in nursing either at a accredited college or a university. As a result they will become familiar with human anatomy, furthering their knowledge by completing clinical rotations at a doctor's office. The National Council Licensure Examination must also be passed before receiving a RN license. After working for five years, professionals can apply for the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society training program for additional specialized training. Further certification also exists through the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing

Certification Board.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nursing employment is expected to grow by 22 percent over the course of the 2008 to 2018 decade.
