Wound Care Jobs

Wound care jobs work under the supervision of either a registered nurses or a physician as they make sure that patient's wounds are treated and healing properly. Treatment programs for their patient's are developed and implemented to use any equipment like hyperbolic chambers. A wound care nurse job will also involve communicating to patient's information about their condition, including how to properly using dressing materials when on home care, as well as charting the patient's healing process and reporting to the physician or registered nursing in charge.

Prospective job seekers for a wound care nursing job are required to pass a licensing exam in all 50 States and the District of Columbia before gaining a wound care job. As of 2006, there were 1,500 training programs for nurses that were approved by the State.

In 2006, there were 2.5 million registered nurses employed with nearly 60 percent of those workers working in hospitals. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics there is a projected increase of 23 percent over the 2006 to 2016 decade. This rate of employment will be much faster than the national average for all occupations as a result of the technological advances in medicine and patient care. A growing elderly population will also raise the demand in employment since this demographic will need more health care services. Job prospects for wound care careers are expected to be excellent, especially for qualified registered nurses. Additional employment opportunities will come from the need to replace workers that change careers or exit the work force entirely.
