Cardiac Surgeon Jobs

Cardiac surgeon jobs are responsible for diagnosing illnesses, prescribing, and administering treatment for their patients that have diseases or suffer from injuries. These surgeons use a variety of medical instruments and equipment to make corrections to physical deformities and injuries.

Most employers require 4 years of undergraduate school, 4 years of medical school, and 3 to 8 years of internship and residency. This profession requires licensing to practice, which can be obtained after passing the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).

With around 661,400 workers employed in 2008, there were over half working in offices of physicians and a smaller amount employed by hospitals. These careers can also be found in Federal, State, and local governments, outpatient care centers, and with educational services. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics there is a projected increase for the rate of employment over 2008 to 2018. An expansion of health care services and a rising elderly population will contribute to the rise in employment.
